What is ASTM A209 Boiler Tube?

A209 boiler tube is a seamless alloy steel tube used in high temperature and high pressure environments. It is manufactured in accordance with the relevant provisions of the A209 standard formulated by the American Society for Testing and Materials. It is mainly used in equipment such as boilers and superheaters.

What is the specification standard ASTM A209?

ASTM A209 is a standard developed by the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) to specify seamless carbon-molybdenum alloy steel pipes for high-temperature and high-pressure applications. This standard is applicable to equipment such as boilers and superheaters that require high-temperature strength and durability, especially in the power, petrochemical, oil, and gas industries.

ASTM A209 Material & Chemical Composition

The ASTM A209 standard mainly covers three grades: T1, T1a, and T1b

These materials contain elements such as carbon, manganese, and molybdenum, which give the steel pipe excellent mechanical properties and are suitable for use in high-temperature environments.

T1a and T1b represent different grades of material composition and mechanical properties, respectively. "a" and "b" are marks to distinguish the two different grades. Specifically, these letter marks represent slight differences in chemical composition and performance to meet different usage requirements.

Size Range of A209 Alloy Steel Tube

According to A209, the outside diameter of steel pipe usually ranges from 12.7mm to 127mm [1/2 in. to 5 in.], and the wall thickness ranges from 0.9mm to 12.7mm [0.035 in. to 0.5 in.].

ASTM A209 Tube Process and heat treatment

According to the ASTM A209 standard, the steel pipe is made of carbon-molybdenum alloy steel and is manufactured seamlessly.

According to regulations, the steel pipe material needs to be killed steel to ensure the uniformity of the internal structure and high-pressure resistance of the pipe.

 Manufacturing method: Hot-finished or cold-finished

 Heat treatment temperature: ≥650℃ [1200℉]

Delivery status: fully annealed, isothermal annealed, normalized, tempered, etc.

Why does ASTM A209 Tube standard require the use of killed steel?

ASTM A209 selects killed steel mainly to ensure the stability and reliability of steel pipes under high-temperature and high-pressure environments. Killed steel refers to steel that has been fully deoxygenated by adding deoxidizers (such as aluminum and silicon) during the steelmaking process. This process makes the steels performance more uniform and stable.

Function:

 Reduce pores and inclusions

Improve the uniformity of mechanical properties

 Improve weldability

 Enhance anti-oxidation and anti-corrosion properties

ASTM A213 T22 extruded finned tube?

What is ASTM A213 T22 extruded finned tube? ASTM A213 T22 extruded finned tube is a heat exchanger tube with extruded aluminum fins on the outside surface, made from T22 grade steel, which is an alloy steel per ASTM A213 standard. The fins are extruded from the base tube, which increases the surface area and enhances heat transfer efficiency. These finned tubes are typically used in high-temperature and high-pressure applications, such as boilers, superheaters, and heat exchangers in power plants or industrial settings. The T22 grade steel has good high-temperature strength and resistance to corrosion and oxidation. Why use ASTM A213 T22 extruded finned tube? ASTM A213 T22  extruded finned tubes  are used in applications where high-temperature and high-pressure resistance is required, such as in boilers and heat exchangers. The use of an extruded finned tube made of this material can improve the heat transfer rate by increasing the surface area of the tube, which enhanc...

What are the components of finned tube bundle?

The heat exchange unit composed of multiple finned tubes arranged according to certain rules is called finned tube bundle. A finned tube heat exchanger can be composed of one or more finned tube bundles. Understanding the finned tube bundles is helpful to the application of finned tube heat exchangers.   What are the components of finned tube bundle?   1. Multiple finned tubes: basic elements of heat transfer;   2. Tube box header or tube plate: connect the box, elbow or steel plate at both ends of the finned tube. When the finned tube is connected with the box or tube plate, the spacing between the finned tubes is fixed, and the tube box makes the fluid in the tube form a continuous flow channel;   3. Frame: support and fix the whole finned tube bundle.   The finned tube bundle is the main part of the air cooler, which is composed of finned tubes, tube boxes and frames. It is an independent structural whole. Its basic parameters include the tube bundle type (us...

What are carbon steel finned pipes?

What are carbon steel finned pipes? Carbon steel finned pipes are pipes that have fins attached to them, typically for the purpose of increasing the surface area of the pipe. The fins can be either integral or attached separately, and they are typically made from a different material than the pipe itself, such as aluminum or copper. The use of  carbon steel finned pipes  are common in applications where heat transfer is important, such as in heat exchangers, boilers, and air conditioning systems. By increasing the surface area of the pipe, the fins allow for more efficient transfer of heat between the fluid flowing through the pipe and the surrounding air or other fluid. Carbon steel is a popular material for finned pipes due to its high strength and durability, as well as its relatively low cost compared to other materials. However, carbon steel is also susceptible to corrosion, so it may not be the best choice for certain applications where corrosion resistance is critical. ...
